Social Identity

Our social identity is a combination of how we see ourselves and how others perceive us and who we really are - it's our place in the mosaic of society.

To help model social identity, we did an activity in our notebooks that had us ask a few questions: how do we want others to see us, how we think we're perceived, as well as the way we perceive ourselves.  We then took these questions and applied them and tried to reflect on how we could reconcile our desires with the way we fit into society.

I want to be perceived as a person who is hard-working, compassionate, and smart.  I think that I'm perceived mostly as those things, but maybe not always compassionate.  My place in society is as a student.  I am a male in South Carolina at Chapin High School.  I am going to Northwestern next year.

I will use the lessons I learned in the Social Identity activity as I go forward to remember that the core of my being won't change, but my place in society may, and that's okay!
