Active Listening

We are always listening to other people; however, the way we handle the information determines a lot.  Active listening is listening and understanding the information and making a conscious effort to hear what the other person is saying.

To model active listening, we learned some of the qualities of an active listener and drew pictures of what active listening looks like.  My picture was between two people who put away their phones and looked each other in the eye and discussed their days.

In the future, I will remember much about active listening, but will try and follow the five qualities of an active listener.  They are listed below:

5 qualities of an active listener:

  1. ​eye contact

  2. popped ears (as seen above)

  3. saying "so what you're saying is _"

  4. hand placement

  5. frequent nodding
